the sun is in front of me. he takes a sacrifice from the line and burns her into nothingness. he tells me i will live forever as punishment for not wanting to exist.

the world dies.

and i am still here.

i descend the steps to my grandparents' home. shallow, wide steps covered in outdated linoleum with brass colored kick-protecting edges. i make it to the landing where i have to turn to my left to complete the journey. it is dimly lit and the wood panel side of the stairs contains a closet. i cannot see, but i feel the door to it is open, the airflow is different over there and i'm afraid. the cinder block wall that cuts the basement in half has 4 wooden rectangles with bolts secured.

the first one flips and it is a large white teddy bear strapped like a medieval torture victim. it is the toy i inherited from my mother. leather bands bind its arms and legs and it is covered in blood and tells me to save it. the other wooden slabs flip to reveal more bears secured in a similar fashion, all bleeding profusely and crying out to me. some are punctured with nails and other sharp objects.

i cannot leave this basement.

the world is in black and white and mostly gray. it is grainy and hard to make out detail. i am wearing all white and lost in emptiness. there is a stone bench and the silhouette of a black tree. i sit there in silence and stare out into nothingness for the rest of eternity.

it was dark and i stood there and felt the presence of people all around me, but could not see. they began to scream and wail as if being murdered and ignited. naked and burning, withered corpse-like frames, they said it was my doing with their eyes. a woman stood an inch in front of my face, covered in flames, her mouth open wider than any natural person's - screaming at me as if i could not hear her.

truly this is my fault.

the dogs caught him as i was pulling him up onto the wall. snagged by the ankle and pulled onto the concrete. they ripped him apart and bared their fangs at me and the others. they were not regular dogs. the top half of their heads were their skulls showing through. one pulled at the heel of my boot and i kicked it in the face and crouched at the crest of the wall, brooding in my failure. the blood turned black and the eyes of the dogs glowed in the darkness.

watched someone get overgrown with ivy and consumed. i was up on a higher floor and unable to save them. muffled screams sounded out and we had to go before it took us too.
